Supporting Local Causes

Having been in business in Cambridge for over 30 years, we are always keen to support local charities and good causes.  We regularly participate in local sponsorship events and have an ongoing relationship with our nominated Cambridge charity, Phoenix Milton.

Phoenix Milton was established in 2006 to provide opportunities for people with learning disabilities to experience manual labour and learn new skills.  The charity does amazing work, not only with students from local schools, but also with young adults who would normally find it difficult to learn these vital life skills.

Attendees at the charity get involved in making and growing a wide range of products which are sold to the general public.  They get to work in the concrete factory which produces a variety of handmade paving slabs and garden ornaments; attend carpentry workshops to produce garden furniture and wildlife accessories and a garden growing vegetables for cooking and plants for sale.

In 2013 the charity introduced a scheme which enables attendees to acquire nationally recognised qualifications in employability skills.  These qualifications provide opportunities to young people who would not otherwise have access to paid employment.

COEL is delighted to once again be sponsoring the Bidwells 100 mile Oxford to Cambridge bike ride.  This is always a great event for the participants, but more importantly, each year much needed funds are raised for a carefully selected and well deserving charity.

If you love cycling but can’t quite manage a mere 100 miles… there’s also a 50 mile option (starting from Milton Keynes).  Meticulously planned, the route weaves its way through villages and small towns so has a lovely rural feel.

This year’s chosen charity is Maggie’s, which provides vital support to cancer sufferers and their families.

The bike ride is always a sell-out event and 100% of the entry fee goes directly to the selected charity.
