• “We were particularly pleased with the project management: always helpful and responsive. An office move on the scale we planned can be very stressful, but COEL worked hard to ensure that everything went to plan. When the inevitable few problems arose they were dealt with effectively.”

Comsol

“COMSOL Ltd has now used COEL to design and build two new offices. They were selected for our recent move on the basis of past performance and we were not disappointed. They were prepared to work with us extensively on the design phase in order to achieve the solution we wanted. The fit out delivery went smoothly and the quality of the work and material used was very high. We are delighted with our new office and I would not hesitate to recommend COEL.”

The Client

COEL has been working closely with Comsol since moving the company into its previous offices in the Broers Building in 2001.  The company has expanded rapidly since then, which prompted its recent move to Castle Park in Cambridge.

The Brief

Key requirements included:

  • A bright, professional space which would reflect the company’s brand identity.
  • The desire to re-create the core glazed pod offices designed by COEL for the client’s previous premises, to enable semi-private working spaces with lots of natural light.
  • The design and introduction of an informal meeting area within the open plan office space.
  • A flexible client-facing meeting suite to accommodate training events and seminars.
  • An open tea-point adjacent to the meeting suite and a larger partitioned staff breakout area to the back of the office.
  • Consideration for future expansion.

The Design

COEL developed a design for the main office space based on the client’s request for a glazed pod layout.  This created the semi-private working spaces which the company favours, whilst maximising the abundance of natural light afforded by the dual aspect windows of the building.

An informal meeting area was introduced within the main office space which included a funky low back sofa with fun honeycomb patterned fabric.  This design, which reflects the 3D imagery of Comsol’s product modelling software, was carried through to the manifestations installed in the reception and meeting suite areas.

Soft hues of the client branding were introduced to add features throughout the space.

A multi-functional meeting suite with moving wall system was designed to accommodate varied, flexible formats and capacities, together with tea-point and refreshment facilities.
